YOGA
Rodney’s Yoga classes are fun, interesting, challenging and educational. Whether you practice regularly and are looking to get more from your Yoga class or if you are absolute beginner, Rodney has something suited for you.
Rodney has been practicing and teaching Yoga for eight years in which time he has studied with leading teachers throughout the world in Australia, India, London and the USA. Rodney’s enthusiasm for his practice and continual desire to broaden his knowledge has led him to an in depth understanding of various styles including Hatha, Iyengar, Ashtanga and Ki Yoga. He has also been an avid practitioner of Vipassana meditation which he first studied ten years ago in Thailand under the guidance of Theravada Buddhist monks and continues to practice to this day on a daily basis. Additionally, he is a qualified Shiatsu practitioner through the London School of Shiatsu-do, a Japanese healing massage which employs the principles of oriental medicine and the body’s natural energy flows as used in acupuncture.
Rodney’s broad training and years of experience provide him with the ability to work closely with his students, appreciating that every ‘body’ is unique; that each student comes to class at a different level with different anatomical structure, proportion, strengths and weaknesses. Rodney’s accumulation of knowledge and skill in presenting students with modifications and variations to the Yoga asanas based on the individual’s capacity allows each student to improve with maximum efficiency whilst avoiding unnecessary frustrations. By drawing on the many techniques attained from a various array of schools throughout the world, Rodney keeps his classes innovative and dynamic; students not only improve their strength, flexibility, breathing and posture but are also presented with a background into the theory and principles behind the philosophy of Yoga.
There is a prominent focus on breath and the physiological mechanics of breathing that permit and encourage the student to monitor the depth and quality of breathing outside the classroom in normal life. As a consequence, the student fosters a capacity to understand the stresses he encounters during various daily activities and how to combat them, maintaining a sense of serenity and well-being. Rodney includes Pranayama, or vital energy breath control, as well as meditation and relaxation methods that benefit the mind, body and spirit and endows the student with a new vitality for life.
